Legal Terminology Glossary (Part 1)
Let’s talk about legal terms. It is something you probably do not think about on a daily basis. In fact, most people do not until they have to.
Lawyers are scary
Yes, lawyers can seem intimidating, but we are all just humans. We have the exact same problems and worries as you do. The only difference is our occupation.

Take dentists, for instance. Many of us are scared of them, but these people are there to save you from pain and make sure you will be smiling with a healthy shining smile.

Lawyers are the same - they do want to relieve you from your pain and make sure everything works out for you. Nevertheless, family matters could be very complicated but having a lawyer beside you changes the game completely.

Lawyers never hold themselves responsible

That is certainly not true at a lot of firms - it’s definitely not true at Genuine Legal (ГС на главную). Like in every workplace, there have to be systems in place to ensure each employee not only delivers on deadlines, but can also communicate their progress with the client.

At Genuine Legal we aim to keep ourselves accountable for the work that we do. This is why we allow our clients to partake in that task! We use an App where each client can observe their case being handled in real time. There, they can keep track of the progress, ask our lawyers questions and access all necessary documents.
If we’re late on a deadline, you can call us out - it’s that simple!

Systems like these can ensure that each lawyer is being kept accountable for their work, and each client can have more peace of mind knowing that their case is being worked on in real time.

MYTH

Lawyers always wear suites

Now that’s a funny one. We know, the oh-so-popular TV Show ‘Suits’ may portray lawyers as super cool and unattainable.

Okay, we do consider ourselves cool… but we are also just humans!
Whenever you feel nervous going into your legal consultation, just remember this. Even though your lawyer may seem super tough and inaccessible during your meeting, chances are he (or she) is slinging tinnies in their PJ’s on the weekend.

All lawyers are rich

Many have an assumption that all lawyers are extremely rich.

That is not necessarily true - only a small percent of lawyers are extremely wealthy. This largely depends on the corporation you work for, your specialty, location and level of experience. The process to become a lawyer is lengthy and hard. And at the start, you have to work for free. However, the reward is worth it!
This is why everyone at GL is super passionate about their work. Our lawyers are driven by their motivation to help their clients.

Lawyers’ main trait is being argumentative

Yes, knowing how to hold your ground and being eloquent in a tough debate are very important traits; however, I will argue (see what I did there?) that one’s knowledge of law, research skills and dedication to the case are way more important. This is exactly what will allow you to see the case through.
Public speaking skills are important; however, most cases do not even make it to court. Doing your research with utmost care, interviewing and building out your case are essential skills that every lawyer must possess.

Dedication and knowledge are far more superior traits in our profession.
